Topeka vanquishes St. Louis in shootout, 2-1 (3-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka RoadRunners defeated the St. Louis Bandits in a shootout 2-1 (3-0 SO).

The shootout featured seven attempts between both teams. Topeka also got shootout goals from Jake Lynes and Ben Bahe.

The RoadRunners overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Topeka fell behind 1-0 after a goal by St. Louis' Ryan Stouffer at 6:07 in the second period. The RoadRunners tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Michal Pastor at 17:00 in the third period.

Topeka's penalty kill excelled, as the RoadRunners gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Topeka stifled the Bandits' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 37 shots on target during the contest, the RoadRunners exceeded the 25.1 shots they average per game this year.

More assists for Topeka came via Richard Young and Kyle Sharkey, who each chipped in one.

St. Louis' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Topeka power plays. The Bandits were below their usual level of shot production, taking 22 shots compared to the 30.2 St. Louis averages. The Bandits did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Louis puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, St. Louis received assists from Charlie Hemstrom and Taylor Wolfe, who contributed one a piece.

Cal Peterson rejected 21 shots on goal for Topeka. The RoadRunners incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Spencer Viele recorded 35 saves for the Bandits. St. Louis incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
