Austin hangs on, beats Minot 3-1Maysa Arena Fri, Mar 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Charlie Adams scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Austin Bruins held off the challenges of the Minot Minotauros in a tough 3-1 win. Austin took over the lead for good with a goal by Adams at 6:34 in the first period. The Bruins had taken the advantage when Minot's Bryan McFarlane got sent off for roughing. Matt Hansen assisted on the tally.Austin was paced by John Simonson, who tallied one goal. Simonson scored 6:29 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Austin. Chris Fischer picked up the assist. The Bruins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Minot power plays. Austin relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jeremy Finger, Adams and Simonson took 17 of the team's 31 shots. Austin also got a goal from Colton Kramer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were Chase McDonald, Connor Quinn, John Kirby, and AJ Reid, who each chipped in one. The Minotauros' offense was clicking better than usual and put 21 shots on goal during the game, better than the 16.2 shots per game they average. Minot was led by Jadin Martin, who scored the team's only goal. Martin scored 9:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Austin. Brian Farkas assisted on the tally. Nicholas Lehr rejected 20 shots on goal for the Bruins. Austin totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Tim Shaughnessy recorded 28 saves for the Minotauros. Minot ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
