Alexandria squeaks by Aberdeen, 4-2Odde Ice Center Fri, Mar 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Alexandria Blizzard escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Aberdeen Wings. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Aidan Cavallini at 19:12 of the third period. Alexandria was sparked by Cavallini, who registered one goal. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Blizzard exceeded the 30.3 shots they average per game this year. Sean Mostrom also scored for Alexandria. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Michael Mooney, who had two and Craig Lindegard, Nick DeCenzo, Hayden Trupp, and Grant Eichstadt, who each chipped in one. Aberdeen stifled Alexandria's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 43 shots that the Wings put on net surpassed Aberdeen's average of 25.2 shots per game this season. The Wings were helped by Ryan Wagner, who tallied one goal. Wagner scored on the power play 11:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aberdeen. Aberdeen earned a power play opportunity when DeCenzo was put in the box for checking from behind. Cory Ward provided the assist. Aberdeen also got a goal from Cullen Hurley as well. In addition, Aberdeen received assists from Trevor Husch, who had one. Jacob Meyers recorded 41 saves for the Blizzard. Alexandria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Marcus Zelzer made 39 saves for the Wings on 42 shots. Aberdeen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
