Odessa wins tough contest against Wichita Falls, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Odessa Jackalopes escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Alex Ostrowski at 17:56 of the third period.

Odessa was paced by Ostrowski, who racked up one goal and one assist.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Jackalopes exceeded the 22.1 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa also got a goal from Darren Lapic as well. More assists for Odessa came via Curt Rau, Mikko Virtanen, Bryan Mitchell, Lawrence Cornellier, and Josh Obregon, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita Falls forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Wildcats had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The 31 shots that Wichita Falls put on net surpassed the Wildcats' average of 23.6 shots per game this season.

Wichita Falls was helped by Zach Pochiro, who had one goal. Pochiro scored on the power play 7:00 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. The Wildcats had taken the advantage when Odessa's Obregon got sent off for tripping. Renato Engler provided the assist. Patrick Yudez also scored for Wichita Falls.

Connor Hellebuyck recorded 29 saves for the Jackalopes. Odessa totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Jo Jo Jeanetta rejected 27 shots on goal for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
