Texas boosted by Leisner's play in net, beats Amarillo 5-1

Behind a great game by Jack Prince, who had one goal and two assists, the Texas Tornado defeated the Amarillo Bulls, 5-1.

Prince scored 1:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. Mychal Monteith provided the assist. Prince dished an assist on Marc Biggs' goal that made the score 3-0 Texas at 6:51 into the second period. He added another helper on John Kirtland's goal that made the score 4-0 Texas at 7:36 into the second period.

Texas' Frederick Leisner was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Leisner will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.5.

The Tornado's penalty kill excelled, as Texas gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Tornado stifled Amarillo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jackson Leef also scored for Texas. More assists for Texas came via Michael Hoy, Lucas Whelan, Drew Allen, and Taylor Herndon, who each chipped in one.

The Bulls could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Amarillo puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Bulls' offense rang up 37 shots on the Tornado's net. Amarillo's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Texas' power play unit. The Bulls' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Amarillo averages 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Gregg Gruehl took the loss and made 14 saves before being replaced by Mike Taffe who made nine saves. The Bulls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
