Fresno vanquishes Wenatchee in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)Town Toyota Center Sun, Mar 04, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fresno Monsters defeated the Wenatchee Wild in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Fresno also got a shootout goal from Kyle Sucher.The Monsters came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fresno was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Wenatchee's Shawn Pauly at 8:20 in the second period. The Monsters knotted things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Jeffrey Pauluk at 14:30 in the third period. Fresno pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. With 25 shots on target during the contest, the Monsters exceeded the 20.8 shots they average per game this year. Fresno was helped by Riley Borer, who had one goal. Borer scored 18:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee. The Wild put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Monsters to score on any of their three power plays. By firing 41 shots on goal, Wenatchee exceeded the 28.7 shots it averages per game this year. The Wild were helped by Trace Redmond, who racked up one goal. Redmond scored 8:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Ben Carey picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Max McHugh, Chris Kerr, and Matt Cope, who contributed one a piece. Fresno's Tomas Sholl stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Robert Nichols rejected 22 shots on goal for Wenatchee. The Wild incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
