Huge game by Young boosts Topeka over Texas, 4-1Kansas ExpoCentre Sat, Mar 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Richard Young was all over the ice for the Topeka RoadRunners, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Topeka's 4-1 win over the Texas Tornado. Young scored 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Chris Bond provided the assist. Young dished an assist on Kevin Patterson's goal that made the score 1-1 at 9:18 into the first period. He added another helper on Patterson's goal that made the score 3-1 Topeka at 2:38 into the third period.By firing 28 shots on goal, the RoadRunners exceeded the 25.2 shots they average per game this year. Topeka got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Topeka also got a goal from Ryan White as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Brian Christie, who had one and Anders Schultz and Kyle Sharkey, who each chipped in two. Texas did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Tornado average 3.5 goals per game. Texas relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Marc Biggs, Jordan Lovick and Jackson Leef took 11 of the team's 21 shots. The Tornado were led by Taylor Herndon, who scored the team's only goal. Herndon scored on the power play 7:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. A hooking penalty on James Ring had put Texas on the power play. Lovick assisted on the tally. The RoadRunners' Alexander Larson stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Topeka incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Frederick Leisner made 24 saves for the Tornado on 27 shots. Texas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
