Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Odessa Jackalopes defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.Odessa overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jackalopes trailed 1-0 after a goal by Corpus Christi's Eric Purcell at 17:10 in the first period. Odessa tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Taylor Portner at 12:33 in the third period. The Jackalopes were led by goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Hellebuyck managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.57 prior to the game. Odessa's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 22 shots between them. The 45 shots that the Jackalopes put on net surpassed Odessa's average of 20.8 shots per game this season. In addition, Odessa received assists from Mikko Virtanen, who had one. By firing 30 shots on goal, the IceRays exceeded the 22.8 shots they average per game this year. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Connor Kingsbury and AJ Jarosz, who contributed one a piece. The Jackalopes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Anthony Stolarz recorded 43 saves for Corpus Christi. The IceRays avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of two power plays.
