Traverse City vanquishes Kalamazoo in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Traverse City North Stars defeated the Kalamazoo Jr. K Wings in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Kalamazoo got a shootout goal from Andrew Graves. In addition to the clincher, Traverse City got a shootout goal from Kyle Froese.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, the North Stars exceeded the 24.9 shots they average per game this year.

Traverse City was led by Sean Murphy, who registered one goal and one assist. Murphy scored 10:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Traverse City. Will Badner also scored for Traverse City. Other players who recorded assists for Traverse City were Mitchell Snider, who had one.

The Jr. K Wings' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 16 shots on net during the game. The 38 shots that Kalamazoo put on net surpassed the Jr. K Wings' average of 31.0 shots per game this season.

Kalamazoo was helped by Jacob McDowell, who tallied one goal. McDowell scored 14:58 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Brett Beauvais picked up the assist. Kalamazoo also got points from Daniel Cesarz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Chris Leone and Taylor Burden, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Laslo recorded 35 saves for the North Stars. Traverse City incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Alex Okicki rejected 26 shots on goal for the Jr. K Wings. Kalamazoo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
