Cook's big game bests Chicago in 5-2 Springfield win

The Springfield Jr. Blues' Kyle Cook had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Chicago Hitmen.

Cook found the back of the net on the power play 1:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield and again while 16:26 into the first to make the score 3-0 Springfield.

Springfield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Chicago to score on any of its four power plays. The Jr. Blues' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.9 shots per game they average.

Springfield also got points from Chris Sitler, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Springfield also got a goal from Josef Pontasch as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Brett Skibba and Cody Kohn, who each chipped in one.

The Hitmen forced Springfield goalie Gabe Antoni to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Chicago was helped by Shigenobu Kakudate, who tallied one goal. Kakudate scored 2:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Springfield. Mason Miller assisted on the tally. Zach Schrotenboer also scored for Chicago. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Sean Reynolds, who had one and Steven Sherman, who had two.

Antoni rejected 31 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nick Kohn recorded 34 saves for the Hitmen. Chicago incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
