The Texas Tornado took the lead against the Topeka RoadRunners in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory. Taylor Herndon provided Texas with the game-winning tally when he scored 9:33 into the the first period. Lucas Whelan assisted on the tally.The Tornado were led by Herndon, who registered one goal. Texas forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Topeka had been spending in the box. The RoadRunners' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Texas power plays. Topeka's offense operated below it season average. The RoadRunners average 3.3 goals per game. Topeka was led by Brian Christie, who took four shots. Texas' Frederick Leisner stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Alexander Larson made 17 saves for the RoadRunners on 18 shots. For Topeka, Luke Veitch was ejected from the game.
