GAME RECAP

Corpus Christi outlasts Odessa, 3-2

Ector County Coliseum    Fri, Mar 02, 2012

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Corpus Christi IceRays escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jonathan Grebosky's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

With three goals and one assist between them, AJ Jarosz and Grebosky teamed up to power Corpus Christi's offense. Jarosz grabbed two goals and one assist and Grebosky also added one goal.

The IceRays' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Odessa power plays. The 29 shots that Corpus Christi put on net surpassed the IceRays' average of 23.1 shots per game this season.

Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Zack Holstom, who had two and Greg Chapman and Frank Misuraca, who contributed one a piece.

With 29 shots on target during the contest, Odessa exceeded the 21.3 shots it averages per game this year. The Jackalopes relied heavily on their defensemen to assist their forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on 15 shots.

Odessa was led by Tyler Minx, who had two goals. Minx scored the first of his two goals at 6:32 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Lawrence Cornellier assisted on the tally. Minx's next tally made the score 2-1 Odessa with 4:40 left in the second period. Josh Obregon picked up the assist. In addition, Odessa received assists from Jared Docken and Mikko Virtanen, who each chipped in one.

Anthony Stolarz recorded 27 saves for Corpus Christi. The IceRays incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves for the Jackalopes on 29 shots. Odessa incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
