Amarillo boosted by Taffe's play in net, beats Corpus Christi 5-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Mike Taffe helped the Amarillo Bulls defeat the Corpus Christi IceRays, 5-1.

Amarillo was paced by Luke Jenkins, who had one goal. Jenkins scored 11:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Amarillo. Zane Popilock picked up the assist.

The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Corpus Christi power plays. Amarillo put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 33.7 it averages per game.

Amarillo also got points from Mike Erickson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Joe Kozlak, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from TJ Sarcona as well. More assists for Amarillo came via Brandon Lubin and Brooks Behling, who each chipped in one and Karl Beckman and John Gustafsson, who contributed two a piece.

Corpus Christi racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the IceRays had been spending in the box. By firing 27 shots on goal, Corpus Christi exceeded the 22.5 shots it averages per game this year. The IceRays' penalty kill unit could not stop the Bulls' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Corpus Christi was led by Perry DArrisso, who scored the team's only goal. DArrisso scored 1:55 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Amarillo. Frank Misuraca assisted on the tally.

Amarillo's Taffe stopped 26 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Bulls ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with two minors and three majors. Anthony Stolarz made 37 saves for the IceRays on 42 shots.
