Traverse City outlasts Kalamazoo, 4-2Molon Rink Tue, Feb 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Traverse City North Stars gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Kalamazoo Jr. K Wings. Traverse City gained the winning advantage on a goal by Eric Rivard 9:53 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Rivard had two goals to lead the North Stars to victory. Traverse City also got a goal from Michal Toman as well. More assists for Traverse City came via Kyle Schempp, Kyle Froese, and Will Badner, who each chipped in one and Mitchell Snider and Robert Wiener, who contributed two a piece. Kalamazoo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Traverse City was unable to stop the Jr. K Wings from sending pucks towards the net, and Kalamazoo eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Jr. K Wings were helped by Robbie Payne, who tallied one goal. Payne scored 8:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Gattelaro picked up the assist. Christian George also scored for Kalamazoo. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Matt Lanzillotti, Danny Hamburg, and Taylor Burden, who each chipped in one. Kyle Laslo made 29 saves for the North Stars on 31 shots. Traverse City incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kenneth MacLean recorded 19 saves for Kalamazoo. The Jr. K Wings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
