Ramsey lifts Kenai River over Alaska, 5-2MTA Events Center Sat, Feb 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kenai River Brown Bears relied on the scoring touch of Jesse Ramsey, who netted two goals, to beat the Alaska Avalanche, 5-2. Ramsey found the back of the net 12:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River and again while on the power play 19:06 into the first to make the score 2-0 Kenai River.Kenai River's defensemen played well offensively, producing two goals while racking up nine shots. Kenai River additionally got points from Matt Thompson, who also had one goal and one assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Marek Hemsky as well. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Brett Lubanski, who had three and Ryan Walker, Chris Blessing, Alex Frere, and Sean Muller, who contributed one a piece. Alaska's defensemen bolstered the Avalanche's offensive attack, as they bombarded Austin Severson with 15 shots. Alaska could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The 32 shots that the Avalanche put on net surpassed Alaska's average of 26.7 shots per game this season. The Avalanche were helped by Patrick Kinkopf, who finished with one goal. Kinkopf scored on the power play 11:47 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Kenai River. Alaska had gained a power play chance when Jake Spinder was whistled for tripping. Evan Janssen assisted on the tally. Evan Hesse also scored for Alaska. Other players who recorded assists for Alaska were Tanner Fahlstedt and Connor Wright, who each chipped in one. The Brown Bears' starting goalie, Austin Severson, made 25 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Gabe Grunwald, who stopped five shots. Kenai River incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Nick Kulmanovsky made 16 saves for the Avalanche on 21 shots. Alaska registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
