Wenatchee vanquishes Topeka in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)Town Toyota Center Sat, Feb 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wenatchee Wild defeated the Topeka RoadRunners in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO). The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Topeka's shootout goals were scored by Brian Christie and Anders Schultz. Wenatchee's other shootout goals were scored by Trace Redmond and Max McHugh.The RoadRunners were stymied by the Wild netminder Robert Nichols, who stopped 34 shots during the victory. Nichols certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.58 entering the contest. By firing 34 shots on goal, Wenatchee exceeded the 28.1 shots it averages per game this year. The Wild were led by Parker Johnson, who grabbed one goal. Johnson scored 6:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Topeka did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The RoadRunners average 3.3 goals per game. Topeka's offense rang up 35 shots on Wenatchee's net. The RoadRunners were led by Christie, who scored the team's only goal. Christie scored on the power play 5:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Topeka had gained a power play chance when Shawn Pauly was whistled for tripping. Cory Ramsey provided the assist. The Wild totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Bryce Fink took the otl and made 31 saves before being replaced by Peter Traber who made one save. The RoadRunners incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
