Austin survives Aberdeen comeback, wins 3-2Odde Ice Center Fri, Feb 24, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Austin Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Aberdeen Wings on the way to a 3-2 win. A goal by John Simonson put Austin up 3-1 in the second period, but Aberdeen pulled to within one on Oliver Widding-Persson's tally 5:38 into the third period. The Bruins made the most of they opportunities with a man advantage, slotting home two goals while the Wings were on the penalty kill. The 31 shots that Austin put on net surpassed the Bruins' average of 26.3 shots per game this season. Austin was led by Matt Hansen, who dished out three assists. Aberdeen got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Wings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.9 shots per game they average. Aberdeen also got a goal from Lane Mahoney as well. Other players who recorded assists for Aberdeen were Ross Pavek, Justin Parizek, Cory Ward, and Paul Prescott, who each chipped in one. Nicholas Lehr made 37 saves for the Bruins on 39 shots. Austin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Marcus Zelzer rejected 28 shots on goal for Aberdeen. The Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
