Huge game by Carey boosts Wenatchee over Topeka, 4-1

Ben Carey was all over the ice for the Wenatchee Wild, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Wenatchee's 4-1 win over the Topeka RoadRunners.

Carey's tallies came on the power play at 12:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and on the power play 3:59 into the second to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee.

The Wild were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Wenatchee surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Wild excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Wenatchee also got points from Trace Redmond, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Wenatchee also got a goal from Shawn Pauly as well. More assists for Wenatchee came via Jacob Barber, who had two and Max McHugh, Chris Kerr, and Dylan Abood, who each chipped in one.

Topeka forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the RoadRunners had been spending in the box. Topeka was below its usual level of shot production, taking 20 shots compared to the 26.6 the RoadRunners average. Topeka could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The RoadRunners put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Topeka was led by Brian Christie, who scored the team's only goal. Christie scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Cory Ramsey picked up the assist.

Wenatchee's Robert Nichols stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Wild registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Peter Traber recorded 22 saves for the RoadRunners.
