Odessa rips Corpus Christi, 4-1

The Odessa Jackalopes were firing on all cylinders against the Corpus Christi IceRays, and when the final buzzer sounded Jackalopes emerged with a 4-1 win.

Odessa was led by goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Hellebuyck certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.57 entering the contest.

The Jackalopes' penalty kill excelled, as Odessa gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

By firing 48 shots on goal, the Jackalopes exceeded the 19 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa was led by Tyler Cayemberg, who registered one goal and one assist. Cayemberg scored short handed 18:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Odessa. The Jackalopes found themselves down a man on Lawrence Cornellier's cross checking. Odessa also got points from Cayemberg, who also had one goal and one assist. Odessa got a goal from Taylor Portner as well. More assists for Odessa came via Jared Docken, Mikko Virtanen, and Tyler Poulsen, who contributed one each.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, Corpus Christi exceeded the 22 shots it averages per game this year. The IceRays could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Eric Purcell, who totaled two minutes in penalty time with one minor.

Corpus Christi was led by Frank Misuraca, who scored the team's only goal. Misuraca scored on the power play 16:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Odessa. The IceRays earned a power play opportunity when Cornellier was put in the box for charging. AJ Jarosz picked up the assist.

Odessa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Corpus Christi's Anthony Stolarz stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced.
