Fresno outlasts Dawson Creek, 4-2Selland Arena Sat, Feb 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fresno Monsters gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Dawson Creek Rage. Fresno gained the winning advantage on a goal by Riley Borer 1:43 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Monsters pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 131 penalty minutes. The referees were busy during the game, as 34 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:08 into the third period. Eighteen fighting penalties were dished out along with nine game misconducts. Fresno's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Dawson Creek power plays. The Monsters put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20 they average per game. Fresno's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 12 shots. The Monsters were helped by Jeffrey Pauluk, who tallied one goal. Pauluk scored on the power play 6:57 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fresno. Fresno earned a power play opportunity when Keenan Bailey was put in the box for interference. Ryan Doner provided the assist. Fresno got a goal from Carl Witty as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Jesse Durfee, Nathan Ropelewski, Karl Andersen, and Luke Sandler, who each chipped in one. The Dawson Creek penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled 11 minors and six majors for 122 minutes in penalty time. The Rage surpassed its season average of 23 penalty minutes per game. Dawson Creek was helped by Dylan Rota, who had one goal. Rota scored 12:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kelyn Opel picked up the assist. Jason Wark also scored for Dawson Creek. More assists for Dawson Creek came via Stephen Zipp and Scott Fellnermayr, who contributed one each. Tomas Sholl took the win and made 22 saves before being replaced by Macauley Haight who made zero saves. The Monsters registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Pauluk, Durfee, Haight, and Petr Mainer were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Paul Bourbeau turned away 21 pucks between the pipes for the Rage. For Dawson Creek, Bourbeau, Evan Ripley, Troy Petrick, Drew Nikirk, and Ryan Matthews were ejected from the contest.
