Barber's goals lift Wenatchee to 3-1 victory over Kenai River

The Wenatchee Wild relied on the scoring touch of Jacob Barber, who netted two goals, to beat the Kenai River Brown Bears, 3-1.

Barber found the back of the net 12:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee and again while 10:03 into the third to make the score 3-1 Wenatchee.

Wenatchee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Wild exceeded the 23 shots they average per game this year.

Kenai River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wenatchee to score on any of its three power plays. The Brown Bears were below their usual level of shot production, taking 18 shots compared to the 25 Kenai River averages.

Wenatchee got a goal from Ben Carey as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Chris Kerr, who had two and Brendan Vetter, Max McHugh, Blake Saylor, and Trace Redmond, who each chipped in one.

The Brown Bears were led by Raymond Stenehjem, who scored the team's only goal. Stenehjem scored 7:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Blessing assisted on the tally.

Kenai River stifled the Wild's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wenatchee stifled the Brown Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Kenai River was led by Stenehjem, who scored the team's only goal.

Robert Nichols recorded 17 saves for the Wild. Wenatchee incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Brown Bears' starting goalie, Austin Severson, made 28 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Gabe Grunwald, who stopped zero shots. Kenai River incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
