New Mexico vanquishes Corpus Christi in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the New Mexico Mustangs defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Corpus Christi's shootout goal was scored by Zachary Lindsay. New Mexico also got a shootout goal from Evan Johnston.

The Mustangs came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. New Mexico trailed 2-0 after a goal by the IceRays' Lindsay at 11:14 in the second period. The Mustangs knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jayson Angus at 8:14 in the third period.

New Mexico was paced by Angus, who tallied one goal.

The Mustangs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. New Mexico ended up below its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game. The 37 shots that the Mustangs put on net surpassed New Mexico's average of 25 shots per game this season.
