Fairbanks vanquishes Wenatchee in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Wenatchee Wild in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Fairbanks saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Ice Dogs made the score 3-0 on a power play goal by JT Osborn at 14:15 in the second period. Wenatchee evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Trace Redmond at 18:34 in the third period.

Osborn had a great game for Fairbanks, netting two goals.

The Ice Dogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wenatchee power plays. Fairbanks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Ice Dogs finished with 17 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Justin Woods, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major. Fairbanks' defensemen bolstered the Ice Dogs' offensive attack, as they bombarded Greg Lewis with 17 shots. Fairbanks put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28 it averages per game.

The Ice Dogs stifled the Wild's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Fairbanks got a goal from Max Birkinbine as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Gabe Levin, who had three and Russell Finch, Nick Hinz, and Sean ORourke, who each chipped in one.

Wenatchee was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with six minors and one major totalling 17 minutes. The Wild stayed under their season average of 22 penalties minutes per game this season. Wenatchee's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Wild give up one goal per game. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Wenatchee exceeded the 26 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wild were led by Ben Carey, who had one goal and one assist. Carey scored 17:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks. Chris Kerr assisted on the tally. Wenatchee got a goal from Max McHugh as well. More assists for Wenatchee came via Chris Knudson, who had one and Dylan Abood, who had two.
