New Mexico falls to Odessa in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Odessa Jackalopes' Josh Obregon scored 59 seconds into overtime to beat the New Mexico Mustangs, 5-4 (OT).

Odessa overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jackalopes fell behind 4-2 after a goal by New Mexico's Patrick Anderson at 17:04 in the third period. Odessa tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Taylor Portner at 18:35 in the third period.

The Jackalopes were sparked by Obregon, who had one goal and one assist.

Odessa outscored its season scoring average. The Jackalopes average two goals per game. Odessa was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The leading offender was Matthew Williams, who totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. With 32 shots on target during the contest, the Jackalopes exceeded the 21 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa also got points from Ryan Atkinson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Lawrence Cornellier, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Ryan Doucet also scored for Odessa. More assists for Odessa came via Curt Rau, Jared Docken, Mikko Virtanen, Jalen Krogman, and Darren Lapic, who each chipped in one.

Odessa was unable to stop the Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and New Mexico eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

New Mexico additionally got points from Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. New Mexico got a goal from Brandon Bistodeau as well. In addition, New Mexico received assists from Charles Baldwin, who had one and Cody Walsh, Mike Chen, and Tate Rusk, who each chipped in two.

The Jackalopes' Connor Hellebuyck stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Odessa registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Randy Graham recorded 27 saves for the Mustangs. New Mexico totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
