Finger's goals lift Austin to 6-3 victory over Alexandria

The Austin Bruins relied on the scoring touch of Jeremy Finger, who netted two goals, to beat the Alexandria Blizzard, 6-3.

Finger's tallies came at 29 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Austin and 15 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Austin.

Austin's penalty kill excelled, as the Bruins gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Austin bested its season scoring average. The Bruins average three goals per game. Austin was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 17 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Michael Bond, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major. The Bruins' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27 shots per game they average.

Austin also got points from Matt Hansen, who also had one goal and two assists. Colton Kramer also scored for Austin. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were John Simonson, Connor Quinn, and CJ Smith, who each chipped in one and Austin Nelson and Brandon Wahlin, who contributed two each.

Alexandria was helped by Thomas Williams, who grabbed one goal. Williams scored 18:04 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Charlie Aus provided the assist. Alexandria got a goal from Aidan Cavallini as well. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Hayden Trupp and Dylan Zink, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Bruggeman made 23 saves for Austin on 26 shots. The Bruins registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Blizzard's Jameson Shortreed stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Alexandria ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
