The Odessa Jackalopes could not stop the Amarillo Bulls' Joe Kozlak, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-2 win. Kozlak's first goal came 3:34 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:33 into the first and at 20 seconds into the second.Odessa's power play was ineffective against Amarillo's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 21 seconds into the third period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period. The Bulls were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and four majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Amarillo surpassed its season average of 27 penalty minutes per game. The Bulls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jackalopes to score on any of their six power plays. Amarillo surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Bulls average four goals per contest. Amarillo put 54 shots on net during the contest, more than the 34 it averages per game. Amarillo also got points from TJ Sarcona, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Clint Carlisle, who also had one goal and one assist. Omar Mullan also scored for Amarillo. Others who recorded assists for Amarillo were Karl Beckman, Brooks Behling, Mike Davis, Ryan Taylor, and Zane Popilock, who contributed one each and John Rey and Matt Johnson, who each chipped in two. Odessa forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19 minutes per game the Jackalopes had been spending in the box. Odessa relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Tyler Minx, Darren Lapic and Tyler Poulsen took 10 of the team's 19 shots. The Jackalopes' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put nine shots on net during the game. The Bulls' Mike Taffe stopped 10 shots out of the 11 that he faced. Amarillo registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Bulls, Taffe was ejected from the game. Justin Davis made 36 saves for Odessa on 40 shots. For the Jackalopes, Justin Davis was ejected from the game.
