Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka RoadRunners defeated the Amarillo Bulls in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Amarillo's shootout goals were scored by Tyler Deresky and Brooks Behling. Topeka also got shootout goals from Michal Pastor and Jake Lynes.The RoadRunners came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Topeka trailed 3-2 after a goal by the Bulls' TJ Sarcona at 3:22 in the second period. The RoadRunners knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Lynes at 14:17 in the second period. Topeka pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. The RoadRunners' offense was clicking better than usual and put 43 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27 shots per game they average. Topeka was helped by Andrew OLeary, who tallied one goal. OLeary scored 16:43 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Kevin Patterson picked up the assist. Topeka got a goal from Trace Strahle as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Ben Bahe, Richard Young, and Brian Christie, who each chipped in one. Amarillo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Bulls kept the RoadRunners' goalie busy throughout the game, and Peter Traber made 30 saves on 33 shots. Amarillo was helped by Matt Johnson, who registered one goal and one assist. Johnson scored on the power play 4:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amarillo. The Bulls earned a power play opportunity when Pastor was put in the box for checking from behind. Sarcona provided the assist. Amarillo additionally got points from Sarcona, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ryan Taylor also scored for Amarillo. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Brandon Lubin, Deresky, Joe Kozlak, and Omar Mullan, who contributed one each. Amarillo's Mike Taffe stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Bulls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
