Huge game by Nauman boosts Springfield over Chicago, 7-4

The Springfield Jr. Blues' Ethan Nauman had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over the Chicago Hitmen.

Nauman beat Brett Kilar with a shot 9:03 into the first period short handed to make the score 2-0 Springfield. Springfield played down a man on Stewart Bell's fighting. Kevin Walters provided the assist. Nauman dished an assist on Ben Kramer's goal that made the score 6-2 Springfield at 5:40 into the third period. He added another helper on Josef Pontasch's goal that made the score 7-4 Springfield at 19:01 into the third period.

The Jr. Blues forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Springfield had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jr. Blues outdid their season average for goals scored. Springfield averages 3.5 goals per game. The Jr. Blues' offense was clicking better than usual and put 45 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.4 shots per game they average.

Springfield additionally got points from Gavin Tufte, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mike Williams also scored for Springfield. In addition, Springfield received assists from Chris Sitler, who had three.

Chicago could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hitmen were helped by Shigenobu Kakudate, who finished with one goal and one assist. Kakudate scored 11:57 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Springfield. Eric Szafranski assisted on the tally. Chicago also got points from Zach Schrotenboer, who also had one goal and one assist. Chicago also got a goal from Sean Madigan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Mike Fazio, who had one.

Tyler Parks made 21 saves for Springfield on 25 shots. The Jr. Blues registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Springfield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bell was ejected from the game. Kilar rejected 38 shots on goal for Chicago. The Hitmen registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
