Smiths Falls beats Kemptville 5-3 after comeback scare

The Kemptville 73s tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Smiths Falls Bears held on for a 5-3 victory.

Smiths Falls made the score 5-2 on a goal by Cole Allard at 7:02 in the third period, and Kemptville got as close as 5-3 when Alex Bouchey scored 18:19 into the third period.

Chris Maniccia was all over the ice for the Bears, as he registered two goals in the win. Maniccia's tallies came short handed at 10:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and short handed 15:15 into the second to make the score 4-2 Smiths Falls.

Smiths Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The 73s were unable to stop the Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and Smiths Falls eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Smiths Falls also got points from Matt Robertson, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Jeffrey Carroll as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Tyler Akeson, who had four and Robbie Hall, Connor McLaren, and Patrick Sexton, who contributed one a piece.

Kemptville found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays.

Lucas Gonu also scored for Kemptville. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Kurt Gowdy and Darius Gibson, who each chipped in one and Stephen Keisler and Mason Nowak, who contributed two a piece.

The Bears' Laine Parent stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Bears, Akeson was ejected from the game. Travis Wilkins rejected 31 shots on goal for the 73s.
