Kanata vanquishes Cornwall in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Kanata Recreational Complex Tue, Mar 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Cornwall got a shootout goal from Tyson Spink. Kanata also got a shootout goal from Devin Cobbold.The Stallions overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kanata trailed 5-2 after a goal by the Colts' Trent Durocher at 2:48 in the third period. The Stallions tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Joe Breslin at 9:21 in the third period. In the losing effort, Cornwall was paced by Tylor Spink, who racked up two goals and one assist. Spink scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. The Colts had gained a power play chance when Mitch Kerwin was whistled for elbowing. Roman Ammirato picked up the assist. Spink's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Cornwall with 14:27 left in the second period. Spink provided the assist. Kanata forced Cornwall goalie Matt Jenkins to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Stallions surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Kanata averages 3.5 goals per contest. The Stallions were helped by Cobbold, who finished with one goal. Cobbold scored 3:39 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Cornwall. Curtis Watson assisted on the tally. Kanata additionally got points from Brent Bisdee, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Phillip Nasca, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kanata also got a goal from Derian Plouffe as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Tim Kavanaugh and Jeff Stanton, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Donnelly and Ian Pichel, who each chipped in two. The Colts' offense rang up 32 shots on Kanata's net. Cornwall gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Colts give up 2.5 goals per game. Cornwall also got points from Michael Borkowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Cornwall came via Michael Phillips, Drew Henry, Lawson MacDonald, and Kyle Baun, who contributed one a piece. The Stallions' Brandon Lane stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Kanata incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Matt Jenkins made 35 saves for Cornwall on 40 shots. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
