Cumberland squeaks by Gloucester, 6-5

The Cumberland Grads gutted out a close 6-5 win against the Gloucester Rangers.

Cumberland gained the winning advantage on a goal by Zach Rodier 13:47 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Keegan Harper had two goals to lead the Grads to victory. Harper scored at 6:51 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Cumberland and again while 18:39 into the second to make the score 5-4 Cumberland.

Cumberland kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sebastian Gratton made 46 saves on 52 shots. The Grads outdid their season average for goals scored. Cumberland averages 3.1 goals per game. The Grads got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Cumberland struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Cumberland additionally got points from Jonathon Elliott, who also had one goal and two assists. Cumberland also got a goal from Jeremy Nichols as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Philippe Drouin, who had two, Kale Wild, who had three, and Travis Douglas, Marc Beckstead, and Mark Golberg, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and Gloucester eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Rangers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Gloucester averages 2.9 goals per contest. The Rangers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Gloucester was led by Jacob Jammes, who registered three goals. Gloucester also got points from Michael McMurtry, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brett Varrin also scored for Gloucester. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Kyle Leduc, Mathieu White, Travis Meyer, Alexandre Boivin, Miguel Laurin, and Daniele Disipio, who contributed one a piece.

Robin Billingham recorded 30 saves for Cumberland. The Grads registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
