Smiths Falls uses shootout to best Carleton Place, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Carleton Place Canadians in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. Smiths Falls also got a shootout goal from Connor McLaren.

Carleton Place's power play was ineffective against the Bears' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Smiths Falls kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Yetman made 28 saves on 33 shots. The Bears could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Smiths Falls was helped by Jeffrey Carroll, who registered three goals. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Matt Robertson, who also had one goal and two assists. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Robbie Hall, who had one and McLaren, who had four.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 39 shots on the Bears' net. The Canadians found themselves short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Carleton Place was helped by Christian Weidauer, who tallied one goal. Weidauer scored 19:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Anthony McVeigh assisted on the tally. Carleton Place also got points from Shayne Morrissey, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jay Llewelyn, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mac Olson also scored for Carleton Place. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Ben Murphy, who had two and Daniel Kolenda, Luke Martin, and Stephen Bayliss, who contributed one a piece.

Mackenzie Sawyer made 35 saves for Smiths Falls on 39 shots.
