Murphy leads Carleton Place over Cumberland, 9-3

Behind a great game by Ben Murphy, who had two goals and two assists, the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Cumberland Grads, 9-3.

Murphy found the back of the net 5:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place and again while 9:33 into the second to make the score 6-0 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Canadians made Cumberland's goaltenders to work without much rest, totaling 45 shots and forcing 36 saves. Mathieu Kingston(AP) made 30 stops and Robin Billingham made six. Carleton Place surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Canadians have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Mac Olson, who also had one goal and two assists. Kyle Phillips also scored for Carleton Place. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Theo Hannah, Shayne Morrissey, Michael Maciag, Luc Deschamps, Anthony McVeigh, Ryan Parker, and Brock Edwards, who contributed one a piece.

The Grads forced Carleton Place goalie Brodie Barrick to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Cumberland was led by Philippe Drouin, who racked up one goal and one assist. Drouin scored 19:55 into the third period to make the score 9-3 Carleton Place. Eric Clitsome picked up the assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Travis Douglas as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Marc Beckstead, Sean Bamford, and Nick Martin, who each chipped in one.

The Canadians' Barrick stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Carleton Place registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
