Ottawa hangs on, beats Brockville 2-0

Devon Rice gave the Ottawa Senators the lead in the first period, and the Brockville Braves was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Ottawa took over the lead for good with a goal by Rice at 19:55 in the first period. The Senators had taken the advantage when Brockville's Matt Chartrain got sent off for tripping. Josh Pitt assisted on the tally.

Ed Zdolshek frustrated the Braves' offense all game, and stopped 30 shots en route to a shutout. Zdolshek managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.84 prior to the game.

Ottawa was led by Rice, who tallied one goal.

The Senators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brockville to score on any of its four power plays. Ottawa was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 16 penalty minutes.

Ottawa also got a goal from Ben Robillard as well. More assists for Ottawa came via Deric Boudreau, who had one and Conor Brown, who had two.

The Braves could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Brockville averages 4.0 goals per game. The Braves' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Brockville finished with 19 penalty minutes.

The Senators registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Andrew Pikul made 21 saves for the Braves on 23 shots. For Brockville, Taylor Henry was ejected from the game.
