Cornwall rips Carleton Place, 7-3

The Cornwall Colts had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Carleton Place Canadians.

Cornwall was paced on offense by Tyson Spink and Michael Borkowski, who combined for eight points. Spink finished with four goals and Borkowski also added one goal and three assists.

The Colts surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Cornwall averages 3.8 goals per contest. The Colts took advantage of Carleton Place's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Michael Phillips also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Tylor Spink, who had three and Michael Woolley, Stephen Johnson, Mark Hough, Trent Durocher, Drew Henry, and Brandon Howes, who each chipped in one.

Cornwall was unable to stop the Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Carleton Place eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Canadians were helped by Ben Murphy, who racked up two goals and one assist. Murphy scored the first of his two goals at 13:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cornwall. Mac Olson provided the assist. Murphy's next tally made the score 5-3 Cornwall with 4:52 left in the second period. Olson assisted on the tally. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Brock Edwards, who had three.

The Colts' Lukas Hafner stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Carleton Place took out Joe Yetman after he had made 17 saves and installed Brodie Barrick in goal, where he finished with two saves and the loss. The Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
