Biard's goals lift Pembroke to 2-1 victory over Carleton PlacePembroke Memorial Center Sun, Feb 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pembroke Lumber Kings relied on the scoring touch of Liam Biard, who netted two goals, to beat the Carleton Place Canadians, 2-1. Biard found the back of the net short handed 14:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke and again while 18:14 into the second to make the score 2-0 Pembroke.Carleton Place was stymied by Pembroke netminder Francis Dupuis, who stopped 38 shots during the victory. Dupuis certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.41 entering the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:38 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The the Lumber Kings penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14 minutes per game Pembroke had been spending in the box. More assists for Pembroke came via Brendan Mcguire, who had one and Patrice Wren, who had two. The Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lumber Kings to score on any of their three power plays. Carleton Place's offense operated below it season average. The Canadians average four goals per game. Carleton Place's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 39 shots put on Pembroke's net. The Canadians were led by Ben Murphy, who scored the team's only goal. Murphy scored on the power play 19:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pembroke. A high sticking penalty on Brandon Gagne had put Carleton Place on the power play. For the Lumber Kings, Trevor Packard was ejected from the game. The Canadians' Joe Yetman stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Carleton Place totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Canadians ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stephen Bayliss was ejected from the game.
