Huge game by Boudreau boosts Ottawa over Smiths Falls, 6-1

The Ottawa Senators' Deric Boudreau had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-1 win over the Smiths Falls Bears.

Boudreau found the back of the net 11:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa and again while 9:54 into the second to make the score 4-1 Ottawa.

Ottawa pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 27 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:29 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The Senators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Smiths Falls to score on any of its six power plays. Ottawa's goal total was higher than its season average. The Senators have scored at the pace of three goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa also got points from Boudreau, who also registered two goals and one assist and Conor Brown, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Mathieu Desautels also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Ben Robillard, who had three and Paul Landry, Devon Rice, Drew Anderson, and Thierry Gibeault, who contributed one each.

The Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Ottawa power plays. Smiths Falls was held below its usual level of production. The Bears put an average of three pucks into the net per game.

Smiths Falls was led by Matt Robertson, who scored the team's only goal. Robertson scored 1:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls.

Ed Zdolshek turned away 21 pucks between the pipes for Ottawa. Team's Liam Burtt, Christian Leger, and Max Fiedler were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Laine Parent took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Mackenzie Sawyer who made nine saves. The Bears ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For Smiths Falls, Jordan Spavor, Connor McLaren, and Patrick Sexton were ejected from the contest.
