Wenatchee shrugs off penalties, upends Fairbanks, 2-1Big Dipper Ice Arena Sun, Apr 17, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Wenatchee Wild shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-1. After the loss made the series score 2-1 in the best of five series, Fairbanks faces elimination next time out. Wenatchee was paced by Mario Puskarich, who had one goal. Puskarich scored 12:19 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee. Ben Carey provided the assist. The Wild's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Fairbanks power plays. DJ Vandercook also scored for Wenatchee. More assists for Wenatchee came via Max McHugh, who had one. The Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wenatchee to score on any of its three power plays. Fairbanks was led by Brandon Carlson, who scored the team's only goal. Carlson scored 17:12 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Colton Wolter assisted on the tally. The Wild's starting goalie, Greg Lewis, made 23 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Brandon Jaeger, who stopped one shot. Wenatchee incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Joe Phillippi rejected 25 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
