Fairbanks rips Wenatchee, 6-3Big Dipper Ice Arena Sat, Apr 16, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild had trouble finding ways to stop the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, which beat Wild, 6-3. After the loss made the series score 2-0 in the best of five series, Wenatchee faces elimination next time out. Fairbanks got the win with help from a great game by Zach Vierling, who had one goal and three assists. Vierling scored 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Jack Callahan assisted on the tally. The Wild's power play was ineffective against the Ice Dogs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Fairbanks forced Wenatchee's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Brandon Jaeger made 28 stops and Greg Lewis made seven. The Ice Dogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wenatchee power plays. Fairbanks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Fairbanks additionally got points from Brandon Carlson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Tayler Munson as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Jared Linnell, who had two and Alexander Jensen, Tyler Voigt, Alec Hajdukovich, and Colton Wolter, who each chipped in one. The Wild kept the Ice Dogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Phillippi made 46 saves on 49 shots. Wenatchee was helped by Jacob Barber, who had one goal. Barber scored 19:37 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks. Michael Di Puma picked up the assist. Wenatchee also got points from Shawn Pauly, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Bradley Shumway and Chris Rumble, who contributed one a piece. Fairbanks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Wild incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
