Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Amarillo Bulls defeated the Topeka RoadRunners in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 14 attempts between both teams. Topeka's shootout goals were scored by Justin Hussar and Dan Dupell. Amarillo also got shootout goals from Mitch Rogge and Dan Sherer.The Bulls came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Amarillo fell behind 4-1 after a short handed goal by the RoadRunners' Dupell at 11:31 in the second period. The Bulls knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Chris Cass at 9:26 in the third period. Amarillo got the win thanks to a great game by Cass, who had two goals and one assist. Cass scored the first of his two goals at 12:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Zack Smoot picked up the assist. Cass' next tally made the score with 10:34 left in the third period. Mike Erickson provided the assist. The Bulls stifled Topeka's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Amarillo was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Amarillo also got a goal from Terrence Johnson as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Karl Beckman, Derek Hills, Joe Kozlak, Luke Jenkins, and Rick DeRosa, who contributed one a piece. The RoadRunners racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Topeka surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The RoadRunners excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances. Topeka gave up more goals than its normal season average. The RoadRunners are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. Topeka was helped by Kyle Sharkey, who grabbed one goal. Sharkey scored 1:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Topeka. Brian Christie picked up the assist. Hussar also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Cody Walsh, Michael Hill, Nate Milam, Brendan Boyd, Zach Schrotenboer, Chris Bond, and Jordan Davis, who each chipped in one. Nikifor Szczerba made 22 saves for the Bulls on 26 shots. Eric Rohrkemper recorded 19 saves for the RoadRunners. Topeka registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For the RoadRunners, Jacob Poe was ejected from the game.
