Amarillo wins tough contest against Topeka, 4-2

The game between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Amarillo emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Dan Sherer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Sherer was all over the ice for the Bulls, as he racked up two goals in the win.

With 33 shots on target during the contest, Amarillo exceeded the 26.5 shots it averages per game this year.

Amarillo also got points from Zack Smoot, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Kyle Sucher as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from John Rey, Karl Beckman, Mitch Rogge, Mike Erickson, TJ Sarcona, and Taylor Ward, who contributed one a piece.

Topeka put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulls to score on any of their seven power plays. The RoadRunners failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 20 pucks on goal after averaging 27.2 shots per game this season. Topeka was held below its usual level of production. The RoadRunners put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

Topeka was helped by Justin Hussar, who grabbed one goal. Hussar scored on the power play 19:50 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The RoadRunners earned a power play opportunity when Travis Hill was put in the box for checking from behind. Bob Marx provided the assist. Michael Hill also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Jacob Poe, Ryan White, and Brian Christie, who each chipped in one.

Nikifor Szczerba rejected 18 shots on goal for Amarillo. The Bulls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Topeka's starting goalie, Eric Rohrkemper, made 22 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Rasmus Tirronen, who stopped seven shots. The RoadRunners incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
