Furdero's goals lift Knoxville to 6-3 victory over PensacolaPensacola Bay Center Fri, Feb 26, 2010 Story by Narrative Science.
The Knoxville Ice Bears relied on the scoring touch of Frank Furdero, who netted two goals, to beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 6-3. Furdero scored at 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-2 Knoxville and again while 1:56 into the second to make the score 5-2 Knoxville.Knoxville's penalty kill excelled, as the Ice Bears gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Knoxville stifled Pensacola's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 36 shots on goal, the Ice Bears exceeded the 29.9 shots they average per game this year. Knoxville additionally got points from Kevin Swider, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Tim Vitek, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mike Bulawka also scored for Knoxville. More assists for Knoxville came via Mike Kneeland, who had three, Chris Brannen and Randy Johnston, who each chipped in one, and Travis Hanson and B.J. Pelkey, who contributed two a piece. Knoxville was unable to stop the Ice Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Pensacola eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Ice Flyers were helped by Erik Stoyanovich, who registered one goal. Stoyanovich scored 14:47 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Knoxville. Tyler Barr picked up the assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Chris Rebernik as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Matt Whitehead, who had two and Brian Deeth and Joey Hughes, who each chipped in one. Chad Collins recorded 41 saves for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Pensacola's starting goalie, Ryan Scott, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jamie Gilbert, who stopped 11 shots. The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
