Swider's hat trick boosts Knoxville over Huntsville, 6-2

The Huntsville Havoc could not stop the Knoxville Ice Bears' Kevin Swider, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-2 win.

Swider notched his first tally 8:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:55 into the third and at 18:08 into the third.

Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its four power plays. The Ice Bears put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 31.4 they average per game.

Knoxville also got a goal from Frank Furdero as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Kevin Harris, Chris Brannen, Jim Jensen, and Mark Van Vliet, who contributed one a piece and Travis Hanson, Randy Johnston, and Taylor Hustead, who each chipped in two.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Huntsville was helped by Justin Rohr, who racked up one goal. Rohr scored 10:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Knoxville. Mike MacDonald provided the assist. Huntsville also got points from Mike Carter, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Martin Kubaliak and Dean Petiot, who contributed one a piece.

Chad Collins made 24 saves for Knoxville on 26 shots. The Ice Bears ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Jeremy Symington rejected 29 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
