Ottawa wins tough contest against Smiths Falls, 4-3Smiths Falls Memorial Centre Tue, Sep 08, 2009 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Ottawa Senators escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Smiths Falls Bears. Ottawa gained the winning advantage on a goal by Alex Poitras 19:14 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Poitras had two goals to lead the Senators to victory. Ottawa also got points from Maxime Pilon, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Andrew Hampton as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Nicholas Belleville, who had four and Jesse Barbier and Maxime Villeneuve-Menard, who contributed one a piece. Team could not crack Ottawa's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Smiths Falls was helped by Blair Barr, who racked up one goal. Barr scored 17:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Mike McNamee, who also had one goal and one assist. Trevor Packard also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Matt Burns, who had one and Nathan Livingstone, who had two. Niels-Erik Ravn recorded 22 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The Bears' Trevor Wilson stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
