Cumberland outlasts Gloucester, 4-3

The Cumberland Grads and the Gloucester Ranger were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cumberland made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Kevin Lough's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Grads were sparked by Lough, who had one goal. Lough scored 17:20 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Cumberland. Brock Plouffe picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Cumberland put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gloucester to score on any of its four power plays.

Cumberland also had goals scored by Alec Chol, Kale Wild, and Sean Bamford, who each put in one. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Mathieu Ouellette, Jeffrey Campbell, Mitchell Gallant, Doug Harvey, and Adam Laderoute, who contributed one a piece.

The Ranger's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cumberland power plays. Gloucester forced the Grads goalie Laderoute to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Ranger were helped by Julien Quincou, who finished with one goal. Quincou scored 1:42 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Kris McCarthy assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Gloucester included Justin Armstrong and Scott Joseph, who scored one goal each. More assists for Gloucester came via Cory Melkert, Brett Shutron, and Mathieu White, who each chipped in one.

Laderoute recorded 34 saves for Cumberland. The Grads ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Cumberland, Mike Lemay was ejected from the game. Francis Dupuis made 25 saves for Gloucester on 29 shots. The Ranger ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Gloucester, Melkert and Joseph were ejected from the contest.
