Ryan Blanchfield said he didn’t know what to do Sunday afternoon after scoring the Silver Stick-winning goal in the PeeWee AA final.

His teammates took care of that for him, however, mobbing him at center ice after his goal 4 minutes, 55 seconds into overtime gave the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven a 2-1 victory against the Arapahoe Ice Warriors at McMorran Arena.

“If you had a camera, my face was shocked,” Blanchfield said. “I thought I’d throw my gloves and have a good time.”

The goal ended a tense overtime session that was filled with scoring chances. It was a radical change from the PeeWee A game, which saw the Omaha Jr. Lancers defeat the Fort Erie Jr. Meteors 8-0.

“It’s an emotional weekend,” Silver Seven coach Cameron Baird said. “We actually lost our first game then got on a real nice roll. You had two pretty tired teams; it’s a long weekend for a couple groups of 12-year olds.

“The overtime, it’s certainly a tough way to lose, and my hat goes off to the other team, they were fantastic. I guess if you could choose to win in overtime, it does make it a little bit more dramatic and more exciting for the boys.”

Oliver Carriere also scored for the Silver Seven, while Austin Vincent had an assist. Sebastien Dubois earned the win in goal, stopping 29 shots, including several good scoring chances in overtime.

Chase Gleason was the only player to beat him for Arapahoe, scoring early in the third period to tie the game at 1. He was assisted on the goal by Alex Harlan and Chase Jones.

“He made some huge saves. He was awesome. He was the No. 1 star,” Baird said of Dubois. “Obviously, we probably wouldn’t have got to overtime, and certainly wouldn’t have had a chance to win the game if he hadn’t played so well.”

Dubois’ counterpart, Addison Zeich also played well, stopping 27 shots in the loss. As Baird noted about the game-winner, however, “I don’t think an NHL goalie would have stopped that.”

“I had a lot of pressure on me, and didn’t really know what to do,” Blanchfield said of the seconds before he put the puck in the top corner to win the game. “He’s a smaller goalie, so I thought I could go upstairs on him.”

In the PeeWee A game, Omaha jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, and led 5-0 after two.

Jacob Felker led the way with three goals, while Ethan Rodriguez had three assists. Lucas Shubert added a goal and three assists, while Tyler Benham had a goal and an assist.

Benjamin Roeder, Payton Siemer and Blake Hutton each added a goal for Omaha, while Thomas Jarman had a pair of assists. Coltan Wilkie also had an assist.

Jack Faulkner earned the shutout victory.
