The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that veteran 1992 forward Matt Zendejas, from Upland, CA has committed to playing NCAA college hockey for the Neumann University Knights next fall. Zendejas followed up a 33 point rookie campaign last season by leading the EJHL-South in scoring this season with 36 goals and 38 assists for 74 points. Zendejas posted 12 power play goals and 18 powerplay assists, and potted 3 game winning goals for the Whalers.

"Head coach Dominick Dawes is getting a naturally gifted goal scorer in Matty", stated Head Coach Andy Newton. "His high skill set will translate well to the college game".

"Matthew Zendejas exemplifies these traits and has earned the opportunity to play for the prestigious Neumann University Hockey program. I am proud and it is a great day to celebrate with Matthew. Neumann University competes in the ECAC and is located in Aston, PA. The Knights are currently ranked as the #11 team in the country.

Zendejas becomes the first Junior Whaler to commit this season, many more commitments are expected in the coming weeks.
