HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 26, 2013) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Matt Auffrey of the Augusta RiverHawks is the Easton Player of the Week for February 18-24.
In Augusta’s only game of the week, Auffrey’s gutsy performance led the RiverHawks to a 2-1 shootout win over Columbus on Friday. Auffrey, who along with his wife and family tragically lost their son the previous weekend, led the way for the RiverHawks by setting up their only goal in regulation, dropping the gloves in a second period fight, and ultimately winning the game with the only goal for either team in the shootout.
A 6th-round selection of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Auffrey earned league MVP honors for the 2010-11 season as he led the expansion RiverHawks to a second place finish.
Also Nominated: Brandon Richardson, Fayetteville (2 gp, 1g, 4a), Bryan Hince, Knoxville (2-0-0, 0.50 gaa, .981 save%, 1 shutout), Jeremy Boyer, Louisiana (2 gp, 2g, 2a, 1 gwg), Adam Feniak, Mississippi RiverKings (2 gp, 2g, 1a) and Matt Ridley, Mississippi Surge (2 gp, 2g, 1 ppg)
