Dawson Mock Named 2025 FCSL Player of the Year

SANFORD, Fla.- A third season in the Florida League proved to be the charm for Sanford River Rats outfielder Dawson Mock (South Florida).

After two years with the Orlando Snappers, Mock moved over to the Sanford River Rats for the 2025 season, and made the most of his opportunity. Mock wrote his name in the Florida League record books, and powered one of the greatest regular seasons in the history of the FCSL.

Following his historic 2025 season, Dawson Mock has been selected as the 2025 Florida League Player of the Year. The Sanford River Rats have won three of the last five Florida League Player of the Year awards, with Jeff Liquori winning the award in 2022 and Josh Pearson claiming the honor following the 2021 season.

The Florida League Player of the Year award, which has also been given to major leaguers such as the Cincinnati Reds' Austin Hays and Santiago Espinal, is selected via a vote of the Florida League's staff, coaches, and scorekeepers. Mock was selected following a season that him post some of the best offensive numbers in league history.

Mock reached base in almost 60 percent of his plate appearances this summer, powered by a .405 batting average and 35 walks drawn, a total that ranked third in single season Florida League history. The outfielder reached base in each of the 28 games he played in this summer, setting a Sanford franchise record for on-base streak and marking the fifth longest streak in FCSL history.

Once Mock would get on base, he became even more dangerous. The Mayo native stole 36 bases across his 28 games, breaking the FCSL record set by Steven Irvine of the Altamonte Springs Snappers in 2007. He turned his base burglary into runs consistently, as his 34 runs scored ranked ninth in league and second in River Rat history.

The third-year Florida Leaguer continued to play well in the playoffs, as he helped the Sanford River Rats to the Florida League Championship Series for the first time since the 2020 season. He reached base at a .462 clip, reaching safely in three of Sanford's four playoff games. He scored five runs across two games in the FCSL Semifinals, where the Rats swept the DeLand Suns.

After three seasons in the Florida League, Mock now sees his name in the career Florida League record books as well. The USF product ranks second in walks (70), third in on-base percentage (.462), and eighth in career stolen bases (49).

Following his career year, Mock is a deserving winner of the Florida League Player of the Year award in the league's 22nd year of competition.
