Blues Fall Short In Division Matchup Versus Gulls

Date:  Source: NECBL: Bristol Blues Baseball

With the season slowly coming to a close, the Blues dropped a crucial game against the Newport Gulls. Newport escaped with a 3-2 win at Muzzy Field on Saturday night.

Vincent Spizzoucco (Portal) tossed a strong outing, going five innings with one earned run and two strikeouts. Jordan Paradis (Mass. Dartmouth went two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen, with no earned runs against his stat line. Pedro Leon (Holy Cross) and Carson Renner would combine to get five outs late in the game.

Bristol didn’t get on the board until the fourth inning, where Gianni Merlonghi (Central Connecticut) scored off of an error. Merlonghi came up clutch in the bottom of the eight, roping an RBI double to center field to tie the game at two.

In the top of the ninth, Adam Agresti delivered for Newport with an infield RBI single to give the Gulls a 3-2 advantage, which ended up being the winning run.

Following the victory, the Gulls now lead the South Division by one game over the Blues. Bristol still has time to reclaim the top spot, however, with the playoffs beginning this Thursday. The Blues look to bounce back tonight as they travel to Mackenzie Stadium to play the Valley Blue Sox. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
